The principal components of modern concrete are identified and defined. A brief description of the major concrete types is given.For the benefit of beginning students, an introduction to important properties of engineering materials, with special reference to concrete, is also included in this chapter. The properties discussed are strength, elastic modulus, toughness, dimensional stability, and durability.
