<emphasis role="bold">Introduction</emphasis> While Part II dealt with balancing the disassembly line, in this chapter the concept of an unbalanced disassembly line is reviewed. Unbalancing may be unintentional or intentional (in the case of stochastic part removal times and just-in-time-style buffers between workstations). This chapter presents an overview of unbalanced lines, a necessary queueing theory introduction, and consideration of the benchmark data set from Part II, and is organized as follows:
