<emphasis role="bold">SOLVENT SCREENING METHODS</emphasis>A variety of methods may be used to estimate solvent properties as an aid to identifying useful solvents for a new application. Many of these methods focus on thermodynamic properties; a favorable partition ratio and low mutual solubility often are necessary for an economical extraction process, so ranking candidates according to thermodynamic properties provides a useful initial screen of the more promising candidates.
