<emphasis role="bold">Fiber Nonlinear Impairments</emphasis> In basic fiber transmission link design the assumption is made that an optical fiber acts as a linear medium. This means the fiber’s properties do not change with optical signal power, the optical signal wavelength remains the same as it propagates in the fiber, and the signal does not interact with any other signals in the fiber.
